What to do now…
I spend a lot of time thinking about human behavior.
I probably shouldn’t, because it’s often not too productive… in part because I am by no means a scientist... in part because its totally distracting. I simply find what makes us do or not do something fascinating.
Speaking of which, the greatest fundamental fear that people have… is the unknown.
It’s a universal fear. And it plays a part in every decision that we make, whether it’s to do or not to do something.
These days, that fear surrounds us. But as the nation reopens (slowly but surely), and your market starts venturing out again, the customer’s experience, will for the time-being be changed.
For some places like grocery stores and picking up pizza, the process is pretty straight forward. But if you need to go to your doctor, buy a car, an insurance policy or sell a house, things get a bit more… complicated.
The problem is that that “complicated” could be - and in many cases I’d guarantee it - keeping your customers from returning as much as they want to. Why? Because they currently have no idea what to expect or how their experience will be if they go to you.
So as a business owner - in any industry - the greatest gift you can give someone is the simply answer what they don’t know.
We all know things have changed for the foreseeable future. And already companies across the board are reporting record losses. And that sucks… for everybody. Because right now people want to shop. They have problems that you can solve.
Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, many of these people are apprehensive about going out, simply because they’re unsure of what awaits them.
I recently had to buy a car during our state’s lockdown. And the biggest reason I went with the dealership that I did was because they showed me exactly how the process works and what I should expect - before I even spoke to anyone.
In other words, they put my mind to complete ease. And they did it before anything else = OF COURSE I’M GOING TO GO THERE.
So if you’re still open or are opening soon and want your customers/clients to return to you faster, don’t just let them know you’re open again for business in whatever capacity, SHOW THEM how the new process works before your competitors do and watch your client base and following grow.
And, of course, if you’d like to talk about ideas or meet for a free consultation regarding what the best messaging for your company might be during this time, feel free to drop us a line!
